The 1994 Orillia Kings Junior B lacrosse team was inducted into the team category on Saturday evening, celebrating a championship season that has grown more legendary with time.

Led by coaches Cam Devine and the late Gary Balkwill and general manager Gord Pye, the Kings went a perfect 22-0 enroute to capturing the Founders Cup — Canada’s national Junior B title — in front of a packed crowd at the Orillia Community Centre.

Team captain Dave Marwick spoke on behalf of the squad, recalling the electric energy in the building that night.

In the team category, the 1994 Orillia Kings Jr. B lacrosse squad will be just the second team inducted. The Kings followed up on a perfect regular season by winning an Ontario crown and then capping the year off by winning a Founders’ Cup title, a Canadian championship.

After back-to-back heartbreaks in national finals, the Kings charged into the season with the goal of finishing the job.

They did that and more, capping a perfect 22-0 season with a dominant victory at the Founders Cup, earning the title of Canada’s best Jr. B lacrosse team — and now, 30 years later, a place in the Orillia Sports Hall of Fame.
