Bill Smith began his involvement with hockey in Orillia in the late 1970’s and was part of the ownership group that brought Jr. A hockey to Orillia in 1979 with the formation of the Orillia Travelways. The Travelways went to the Canadian Championship three years in a row (1984, 1985 and 1986) and won a national title, a Centennial Cup, in 1985. He has continued to support minor and junior hockey programs in the Orillia area for the last 35 years. Bill was also a member of the ownership group behind the Toronto Rock that won five National Lacrosse League championships during his time with the team. He was also a member of the ownership group for the Ottawa Renegades of the CFL from 2002 to 2006.
