Jacob Gill (Jake) Gaudaur Jr., was born in Orillia in 1920. An accomplished oarsman and lacrosse player in his youth he went on to become an outstanding football player and later President and General Manager of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats football club, and was a Commissioner of the Canadian Football League between 1968 – 1984.

It was with the Royal Canadian Air Force where he played football with the Champion Toronto RCAF-Hurricanes (1942). He joined the Hamilton Tigers in 1948, where he became captain of the club. He was on the championship team for the 1953 Hamilton Tiger-Cats Grey Cup game.

Jake is recognized with a number of honours, inducted in the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1984, he became an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1985 and was inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame in 1990.
