Allan Cup Champions – Hockey
Inducted 2023

The Orillia Terriers are skating into history again as the first team to be inducted into the Orillia
Sports Hall of Fame.

The Terriers were the cream of the crop when it came to senior hockey in the mid-1970s at a
time when the level of play was just below the American Hockey League.

Despite the surprising early-season departure of their head coach during that memorable 1972-
73 season, the Terriers compiled a stellar 31-13 record, finishing just behind the powerful Barrie
Flyers for second place in the Ontario Hockey Association’s Senior ‘A’ division.

In a tough playoff series for the Ontario championship, Orillia earned a hard-fought win in Barrie in Game 5, before capturing the title on home ice in the next game in an OT thriller. Orillia went on to defeat Thunder Bay for the Eastern Canadian championship to punch their ticket to the Allan Cup – on home ice at the Orillia Community Centre.

Orillia defeated the St. Boniface Mohawks 4-1 in the series to etch their names in hockey history. It is the only time in Orillia’s history that a local team has captured the Allan Cup.
