Mark started swimming with the Orillia Channel Cats in 1989. He soon became an elite swimmer and was among the province’s top swimmers throughout the 1990’s and early 2000’s. In 1997 he was the Junior National Champion and in 1998 he was named Orillia’s Athlete of the Year. Mark was consistently at the top of his game provincially, taking several championship titles from 1998-2001, including a finalist at the 2000 Olympic Trials. In 2002 at the National Trials in Victoria he hit the pinnacle of his career becoming a Canadian National Champion in the 50 butterfly. Mark is an ambassador for his sport and an inspiration to younger swimmers.
